A freight plan answers how cargo will move. An overseas buyer's proposed payment terms raise a separate question: what happens if payment does not arrive? Before accepting credit terms, an exporter can ask ECGC about suitable export credit insurance and the conditions attached to it. Preparing shipment records early can make that discussion more useful.
An existing option to ask ECGC about
ECGC's Small Exporters Policy overview describes a policy aimed at smaller exporters, with commercial and political risk cover related to its standard policy. It also describes shipment declarations and reporting of overdue payments. These are continuing responsibilities, not simply documents to collect when a problem occurs.
The page displays an older update date. We are not presenting its premium figures, limits or claim timings as a current offer. Ask ECGC to confirm the appropriate product, buyer and country requirements, applicable terms and reporting obligations before relying on cover. A published product description does not confirm that your business or a particular sale is insured.
Start with the transaction, then check the cover
The official Shipment Comprehensive Risks Policy overview identifies buyer and bank credit limits, advance premium arrangements and shipment reporting among exporter obligations. The exact applicable policy and terms need separate confirmation.
For an initial discussion, organise the proposed destination, buyer, payment terms, shipment value and expected dates. Keep unresolved questions visible: which party will pay, what evidence will show dispatch, and who will track the payment due date? This is a practical preparation step, not an insurance recommendation or a promise that a claim will be paid.
Keep logistics and payment records aligned
A payment arrangement and a cargo movement can have different deadlines. Maintain one agreed set of shipment facts for the people handling the sale, finance and documentation. If the buyer requests a change, identify which records and approvals need review before treating it as agreed.
WCL can help organise the cargo and shipment-documentation side of that conversation through our logistics services. For a first enquiry, email webq@wclogistic.in with the route, cargo type and documentation issue. Insurance selection, underwriting, coverage and claims decisions remain with ECGC and the relevant advisers; WCL does not grant cover or guarantee payment.
